Northern Lights Arena asks Alpena County to cover $17,000 dehumidifier replacement from surcharge

Jeremy Winterstein, representing Northern Lights Arena, told the Alpena County Facilities, Capital & Strategic Planning Committee that a paper element in the arena's dehumidifier has deteriorated to the point that roughly a quarter of it has failed. An earlier quote from the original installer, Climate by Design, put replacement at $17,000 and Winterstein said the installer will provide an updated quote.
Winterstein asked the county to authorize payment directly from the arena surcharge rather than having Northern Lights pay up front and seek reimbursement. He noted the arena typically must spend $6,000 before surcharge funds become available and said Northern Lights is a little short of that threshold. Chair Travis Konarzewski said he would add the request to the full board agenda for consideration.
No vote was taken at the committee level on the request; the matter will be considered by the full board.
