Barry County committee approves 3-year recycling coordinator agreement, backs contract recommendation for 'Rock the Country' event

The Barry County Committee of the Whole approved a three-year professional services agreement with the Barry Conservation District for Recycling Coordinator services and recommended county approval of a contract to provide public-safety services for a mid-June concert event.
The committee voted to approve the recycling coordinator agreement — a 36-month contract effective June 1, 2025, through May 31, 2028 — after public comment in support from Ron Eshuis of Granger Waste Services and the Materials Management Planning Committee. Commissioner Catherine Getty moved the measure and Commissioner David Hatfield seconded; the motion carried with all present voting aye and Commissioner Marsha Bassett absent.
Commissioner Bob Teunessen moved, and Commissioner Mike Callton seconded, a motion to recommend that the full Board of Commissioners approve a contract with 46 Entertainment to provide county services (911, sheriff and emergency management) for the Rock the Country event scheduled June 13–14 at the Barry County Expo Center. The committee carried that recommendation with all present voting aye; the recommendation will be considered by the Board of Commissioners.
Also on the consent side of the agenda, the committee approved the May 6, 2025 Committee of the Whole minutes on a motion by Commissioner Bob Teunessen, seconded by Commissioner Jon Smelker.
No fiscal totals for the contracts were stated in the committee record. The recycling agreement’s duration and effective dates were specified in the motion; the Rock the Country item was forwarded as a recommendation to the board rather than recorded as a final county-contract award by this committee.
Next steps: the Board of Commissioners will consider the recommended Rock the Country contract at a future meeting; the recycling agreement was approved by the committee and appears on the county’s implementation schedule.
