Administrator and commissioners raise solar project concerns; PACE funding and community land trust to return to agenda

County Administrator Eric Zuzga used his report at the May 27, 2025 meeting to flag several upcoming items and local concerns. Zuzga said a PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) funding request will be on the agenda next week and discussed the Community Land Trust program. He also told commissioners he is coordinating with Planning and Zoning to address community concerns about a proposed solar project.
Commissioner Bob Teunessen said he visited the solar installation in Johnstown Township after the previous week's meeting, stopped at the township office to speak with staff and referenced an existing decommission plan for the project. Chair David Jackson told the board he has requested a representative from Consumers Energy brief the board on the solar project and asked Administrator Zuzga to follow up on outstanding questions.
In public comment, Steven Pitsch of Yankee Springs Township urged the board to prioritize radio upgrades for the Sheriff's Posse. The administrator also said he will visit Western Michigan University the following day to meet with the Medical Examiner's Office to discuss communication issues between funeral homes and the medical examiner.
The board did not take formal action on the solar project, PACE or the land trust at this meeting; commissioners directed staff to continue coordination and to schedule appropriate briefings.
