Committee endorses PACE agreement for 420 East Mill Street; Consumers Energy gives solar update

The Barry County Committee of the Whole on June 3 recommended approval of a Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) Special Assessment Agreement for a proposed project at 420 East Mill Street and received a separate update from Consumers Energy on its local solar project.
County Administrator Eric Zuzga and John Wiley of Lean & Green Michigan presented the PACE financing request and described the proposed project’s eligibility for PACE special assessment financing. After questions, Commissioner David Hatfield moved to recommend approval of the PACE Special Assessment Agreement; Commissioner Bruce Campbell seconded and the motion passed with all ayes. The committee’s recommendation will be transmitted to the full Board of Commissioners for final action.
Following an agenda amendment to add the item, Greg Moore, Community Affairs Manager with Consumers Energy, provided updates on the utility’s solar project and answered questions posed by commissioners and the public. The update was informational; no formal county action on Consumers Energy’s project was recorded in the minutes.
During public comment, Greg Taylor of Copper Rock Construction and Development thanked the county and Consumers Energy for their cooperation on the Royal Coach Site project.
Next steps: the PACE Special Assessment Agreement recommendation will appear on an upcoming Board agenda for final approval. The Consumers Energy update will remain on record as an informational briefing delivered to the committee.
