Commissioner Joel Keranen told the board that the Houghton County Planning Commission reported wind and solar projects would be sited where companies choose, and that local options to block projects appeared limited according to the Commission's report to the board.
Administrator Larson told commissioners they can attend CREO/PA 233 template meetings on Oct. 8 and Oct. 28 to review state and regional guidance and a proposed template for renewable energy ordinances. Commissioner Glenn Anderson said Stanton and Adams townships could be potential locations for wind development, and Chairman Tom Tikkanen asked whether locally produced energy could generate an energy credit if used locally.
The board did not adopt an ordinance at the meeting; members were encouraged to attend the CREO sessions for more detail on state guidance and local options.
