Houghton County to interview four finalists for county administrator

The Houghton County Board of Commissioners voted Wednesday to invite four finalists to interview for the county administrator position and scheduled a special meeting for Oct. 16 to conduct 40-minute interviews pending the candidates’ acceptance.
Chairman Tom Tikkanen convened the special meeting at 12:00 p.m. in the courthouse conference room. Commissioner Glenn Anderson said the job posting ran on several websites and that “there were 16 applicants.” The board then voted to enter a closed session at 12:06 p.m. to review candidate materials.
When the board reopened the meeting at 12:34 p.m., Commissioner Anderson moved to offer interviews to Candidates #4, #8, #10 and #13; Commissioner Joel Keranen seconded the motion. The motion passed on a recorded vote: Anderson, Keranen, Tikkanen, Janssen and Britz voting yes (5-0).
The board also approved a motion, moved by Anderson and seconded by Keranen, to schedule a special meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. for candidate interviews. The board specified 40-minute interview slots; the schedule is subject to candidate acceptance.
During public comment, Colin of television station TV6 requested a copy of Administrator Larson’s letter of resignation. Chairman Tikkanen said a copy of the email would be provided to TV6. No other public comments or announcements were made.
The meeting adjourned at 12:37 p.m.
