The Houghton County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 16 voted 5-0 to offer the county administrator position to candidate Chelsea Rheault following interviews with two finalists.
Chairman Tom Tikkanen called the special meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. in the courthouse conference room in Houghton. After interviewing candidates Kevin C. Manninen and Chelsea Rheault, Commissioner Joel Keranen moved and Commissioner Glenn Anderson seconded a motion to offer the position to Chelsea Rheault and direct the Personnel Committee to develop a compensation package. The motion passed with commissioners Keranen, Anderson, Tikkanen, Gretchen Janssen and Roy Britz voting yes and no votes recorded.
The board scheduled a Personnel Committee special meeting for Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. to finalize compensation. The hiring decision and the compensation discussion were the substantive actions recorded at the Oct. 16 special meeting; no public comments were offered on the agenda items. Earlier in the meeting, Commissioner Gretchen Janssen moved — and Commissioner Joel Keranen seconded — to approve the meeting agenda; that procedural motion also carried by voice vote.
The meeting began at 9:00 a.m. and adjourned at 11:08 a.m. County Clerk Jennifer Kelly is listed on the minutes as clerk of the meeting.
