The Senate Public Safety Committee approved House Bill 1391 to create a specially licensed plate for the Georgia Public Safety Foundation, which the sponsor said supports scholarship and family-assistance programs for state public-safety officers.
Representative Tim Fleming described the foundation's mission: "The foundation supports their families and these officers in the time of need. They also provide scholarships, to children and grandchildren, of those men and women who serve us on a daily basis across the state." Fleming said a portion of proceeds from the specialty plate would go to the foundation.
Senator Jackson asked whether the plate required a digital plate. Fleming clarified that the displayed image in committee materials was a digital image for presentation purposes and that the bill does not mandate a digital license plate. Senator Wicks moved to pass and Senator Dickerson seconded; the committee passed the measure by voice vote.
Representative Fleming and the committee encouraged constituents to consider supporting both the state foundation and local public-safety foundations.
