Grant County Planning & Zoning approves multiple permits, refers Schatz subdivision zone change to commissioners

The Grant County Planning & Zoning Board on July 10, 2025 approved five building permits and voted to send a zone-change request for the Schatz Third Subdivision to the Grant County Commissioners to begin scheduling a public hearing.
Robert Ternes, chairman of the board, called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. MDT. Jason Albert, Planning & Zoning Director, told members a public hearing for a separate zone-change request from Tischmak and Vandenberg is scheduled for August 6, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.; Albert said he would confirm the hearing location at the next County Commissioners meeting.
On the Schatz Third Subdivision zone change, Matt Hager moved to recommend the application be forwarded to the County Commissioners so a public hearing can be set; Brendan Becher seconded the motion, which carried.
The board approved building permit BLD-2025-017 for Christopher and Ashley Fischer, a new home with garage and deck. Matt Hager moved approval, Vernon Straub seconded, and the motion carried. The board approved permit CA1L3607292024, a permit extension for Corrie Huber to add a deck to an existing structure; Brendan Becher moved approval and Bob Larson seconded.
Permit BLD-2025-018 for work by T-Mobile (represented at the meeting by Taylor McLaughlin) to add new equipment to an existing cell tower was approved after a motion by Matt Hager and a second by Vernon Straub. The board also approved BLD-2025-019 for Jason Schatz to build a new garage/workshop (motion by Bob Larson, second by Matt Hager) and BLD-2025-020 for Hunter Koepplin for a new farm shop (motion by Brendan Becher, second by Bob Larson). All permit motions carried.
Albert briefly raised a separate, very early-stage inquiry about a possible wind farm project, noting the matter was only informational at this point and no formal application or hearing was before the board.
The board set its next regular meeting for August 6, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. MDT. Matt Hager moved to adjourn and Vernon Straub seconded; the meeting adjourned at 9:34 a.m. MDT.
