Grant County P&Z records FEMA guidance on Lake Tschida floodplain; Grid United hearing set for April 16

P&Z Director Jason Albert told the Grant County Planning & Zoning board on March 13 that an email from Matthew Buddie of FEMA Region 8 states Grant County is no longer responsible for regulating the Floodplain Ordinances on federal land around Lake Tschida, but that the county still controls issuance of building permits for that area.
The notification was presented as an informational update during the meeting; no new local rule or formal action was adopted by the P&Z board at the session. Albert said the change follows FEMA Region 8 guidance conveyed by Buddie via email.
Albert also updated the board that the public hearing for the Grid United project has been scheduled by the County Commissioners for April 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. MDT. The board was informed so members could note the date and prepare any materials or testimony as appropriate.
The board did not take votes on floodplain policy at the March 13 meeting; members treated the FEMA email as a jurisdictional clarification. The meeting record shows the P&Z board will continue to exercise local building-permit authority in the Lake Tschida area even where federal land is involved.
The board adjourned at 11:15 a.m. MDT. The next regular meeting is scheduled for April 16, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. MDT.
