At their Nov. 5 meeting Grant County Commissioners approved routine business including a motion to pay county bills totaling $17,521.94 and recorded roll-call votes of aye by Commissioners Al Roy Hochhalter, Marty Meyer and Chairman Alton Zenker.
The bills list included multiple vendors; the largest single vendor entries in the minutes were Nutrien Ag Solutions for $5,614.00 and GS Publishing LLC for $2,461.02, along with smaller claims for equipment, lodging and services.
Julie Fischer, Grant County Recorder/Clerk of Court, asked the board what it wanted to do with the courthouse's old courtroom camera system (the county paid part of the original cost and the State Court System installed the new system). Fischer requested authorization to solicit bids to recarpet the courtroom and to apply for a State Court System grant to help pay for recarpeting. The board recorded the request for bids and the grant application inquiry in the minutes.
The board also heard from engineering consultants about local road projects. Eric Urness of Brosz Engineering discussed the "tail feather" bridge and a right-of-way classification that will require a reappraisal of noncropland valuation. John Sauber of Sauber Engineering said he will submit an application and cost estimate for reconstruction and a possible dust inhibitor on county roads that provide access to recreational areas, under the Special Road Fund program; the application deadline is Nov. 30, 2025.
The board approved a beer and liquor license for Shields Bar for Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2026 (motion by Hochhalter, seconded by Meyer; roll-call recorded as aye) and approved the appointment of Steven Schadler to the Grant County Water Resource District Board of Directors for a three-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2026 (motion by Meyer, seconded by Hochhalter; roll-call recorded as aye).
Sheriff Dillon presented call-for-service statistics and noted city contracts for 2026 had not been received. The board adjourned at 11:44 a.m.; upcoming meetings were set for Nov. 19 and Dec. 3, 2025, and the courthouse will be closed Nov. 11 (Veterans Day) and Nov. 27–28 for Thanksgiving.
