Grant County approves East Lark Bridge plan, adds bank signer and weighs options for abandoned mobile homes

Maria Tomac briefed the Grant County Board of Commissioners on the East and West Lark bridge projects on Dec. 3. She said the county is awaiting final approval on inventory removal of the West Lark Bridge (an old highway bridge not located on a used road) and that the structure will remain in place and is not owned by the county or a township. The board voted unanimously to approve 'alternative #1' for the East Lark Bridge; the motion was made by Commissioner Al Roy Hochhalter and seconded by Commissioner Marty Meyer.

The board also voted to add Amber Reis as an authorized signer on checking and certificate of deposit accounts at Grant County State Bank, First International State Bank & Trust and Dakota Community Bank & Trust. The motion was made by Meyer, seconded by Hochhalter and passed by roll call.

Sheriff Terry Dillon presented monthly statistics and calls for service and presented grant payments from the New Salem Civic Club and the Elgin Lions intended to assist with the purchase of cameras for the sheriff's office. No formal action was required on the grants at the meeting; they were presented for the record.

Jackie Steinmetz, Director of Tax Equalization, discussed mobile homes with delinquent taxes. Commissioner Meyer said he will contact the Western Plains Health District regarding disposal requirements for abandoned mobile homes. County Auditor Sara Meier recommended obtaining an affidavit from either the mobile-home owner or the park owner to clear title before the county takes action. Chairman Alton Zenker said the City of Carson has offered to assist with removal efforts.

The board adjourned at 10:52 a.m. and noted upcoming meeting dates and courthouse closures for the holidays.
