Steuben County Council approves health department transfers and accepts small donation for coroner supplies

Steuben County Council on Feb. 12 approved budget transfers to cover Health Department staffing and preparedness needs and accepted a small state donation for coroner supplies.
Alicia Van Ee, chief sanitarian for the Steuben County Health Department, requested transfers from the Local Health Maintenance Fund, moving $7,680 into part‑time sanitarian pay and $587.52 to Social Security. Council members voted to approve the transfers on a motion by Jim Getz, seconded by Ruth Beer; the motion passed with five ayes.
Van Ee also sought appropriations from the Public Health Preparedness special fund for supplies ($10,816) and machinery/equipment/repair ($4,278). Separately, William Harter and Van Ee submitted a Department of Health donation of $445 to purchase body bags for the County Coroner’s Office; the council approved acceptance of that donation on motion and unanimous vote.
The actions were routine budget adjustments and a grant/donation acceptance to ensure the Health Department and Coroner’s Office had designated funding for specified items. Council President Richard Shipe handled procedural matters; Auditor Kim Meyers recorded the approvals.
The council did not set further conditions for these appropriations. The agenda shows the items were approved during the special session and recorded in the meeting minutes.
