Morton County approves plats, road‑work contract, 911 MOA and cemetery policy

The Morton County Commission approved a series of land‑use and administrative actions Sept. 12, including two final plats, a special‑use permit, abatements, a road overlay contract, an interagency 911 memorandum of agreement and a revised cemetery policy.
Commissioner Zachmeier moved and Commissioner Buckley seconded approval of the final plat for the short‑form subdivision Triangle S Acres and a zoning map amendment from Agricultural to Residential, with the applicant given the option of a 20‑foot utility easement instead of 40 feet. Commissioner Zachmeier also moved approval of the short‑form Sims Cemetery Subdivision and a zoning map amendment from Agricultural to Public/Institutional; Commissioner Morrell seconded and both motions carried unanimously.
The commission granted a special use permit to allow one farm worker dwelling unit in the S½ of Section 2, Township 137N, Range 81W, finding the request consistent with Morton County Land Use Code Section 5‑220. The board approved abatements #6622–6623 and #6624–6625 in separate motions; both motions passed.
On infrastructure, the commission concurred with the NDDOT contract award to Northern Improvement Company for an overlay of County Road 139A at a contract amount of $741,988.30 and authorized execution of the resolution for return to NDDOT. The board also authorized Chair Nathan Boehm to sign a memorandum of agreement with the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services (NDDES) for 911 dispatch services covering July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027.
Commissioners approved a revision to Policy 100‑030, 'Abandoned Cemeteries – Endangered Gravesites.' The meeting record lists total county expenditures from Aug. 9 through Aug. 27, 2024 at $1,281,170.81; the auditor’s office made a detailed check list available for public inspection during regular business hours. The meeting adjourned at 6:07 PM.
