The Morton County Commission on Oct. 22 authorized a $30 membership payment to support the Metropolitan Planning Organization’s membership in the Big Sky Rail Authority and agreed to let Chair Nathan Boehm sign a letter of support for the Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority.
The actions followed an update from Matt Schanandore of the Mandan Progress Organization on MPO activities and plans. Commissioner Morrell moved and Commissioner Buckley seconded the $30 membership authorization, which passed on a recorded vote with all five commissioners voting aye.
Commissioner Morrell then moved and Commissioner Buckley seconded a motion authorizing the chair to sign a letter of support for the Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority. On a roll call vote, Commissioners Morrell, Leingang, Buckley and Chair Boehm voted aye; Commissioner Zachmeier voted nay. The motion carried 4–1.
The commission did not record direct quotes during the MPO update in the meeting transcript. The motions were recorded as votes of the full commission and no additional conditions or funding commitments beyond the $30 membership and the support letter were specified.
The commission adjourned the meeting at 6:51 p.m.
