Corporal Donnavan Pinckney honored as Pee Dee School Resource Officer of the Year

Sumter County Council recognized Corporal Donnavan Pinckney on Tuesday after he was named Pee Dee School Resource Officer of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Resource Officers.
Sheriff Anthony Dennis introduced Pinckney and presented a news-release summary to the council. Dr. Trevor Ivey, founder and executive director of Liberty STEAM Charter School where Pinckney serves as an SRO, told council Pinckney is "a trusted mentor, educator, and a role model who is deeply committed to the success of our school’s mission." Ivey cited examples including comforting students in distress, supporting difficult conversations with adults and helping provide food and incentives for scholars who struggle behaviorally.
Pinckney described school resource work as an extension of regular deputy duties with a particular focus on youth. "It is no different than what the average deputy does every day, it is just that we take a special interest in the youth," he said. Sheriff Dennis congratulated Pinckney and said the deputy is "doing a fantastic job and impacting generations." Chairman James T. McCain, Jr. presented a certificate of recognition and a gift on behalf of Sumter County Council.
