Shaw AFB presents AICUZ update to Sumter County; study received as information

Representatives from Shaw Air Force Base and consultants from HB&A/The Schrelfer Group presented the decennial Air Installation Compatible Use Zones (AICUZ) study to Sumter County Council on July 23.
Ms. Ashley Nichols, community planner for the 20th CES/CENPL at Shaw AFB, thanked county officials and the clerk’s office for hosting a public AICUZ open house in the administration building lobby and introduced Shaw engineering staff and the consulting team. Abbey Ness of HB&A/The Schrelfer Group was identified as the firm that conducted the study. The AICUZ guidance is reviewed every ten years; council received the presentation as information and took no regulatory action at the meeting.
The presentation and the open house are intended to inform county planning and the public about noise zones, accident potential zones, and other land-use considerations around Shaw AFB. Council did not adopt any zoning changes tied to the presentation during the meeting.
