Ware County backs concept of tri-county perimeter road; GDOT would select any route

Commissioner Jon Tindall presented Resolution 2025-22, a tri-county resolution supporting the concept of a perimeter road linking Ware, Pierce and Brantley counties. Tindall and other commissioners stressed the vote covers the concept only and does not approve a route; any eventual alignment would be determined by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).
Tindall told the meeting the counties held a preliminary meeting to review a concept map and cautioned residents against assuming the map shows a final path through private property. He noted that the project would be large and long-term and that many current residents likely will not see completion. He also cited a prior county effort that, he said, resulted in forfeiting about $70 million of project support; the Commission later paid $5 million each toward a State Street overpass to regain standing with GDOT and moved the project’s preliminary engineering earlier.
County Manager James Shubert said an earlier comprehensive transportation study included a feasibility analysis that showed roughly 90% feasibility for constructing such a perimeter road. Commissioners agreed to add the resolution to the regular meeting agenda to show unified support for the concept while leaving routing decisions to GDOT.
