Residents urge Ware County to build pickleball courts at Trembling Earth; commissioners back pursuing grant

John Randall Smith and Sandy Haut asked the Ware County Board of Commissioners to add pickleball courts at the Trembling Earth complex, saying tournaments and visiting players boost local spending on hotels, food and retail. Recreation Department Director Lance Adamson told the commission a recreation grant application will be submitted when the next funding round opens in June 2026.
The presentation included a slideshow and testimony that local players currently travel to neighboring counties and Northeast Florida because the only local court—inside city limits—has pavement damage from tree roots. Smith said that visiting players often search online for nearby courts and then spend money locally when they come for play and tournaments.
The commissioners indicated support for pursuing the project; Adamson and the presenters recommended adding the request to the regular meeting agenda so the county can pursue grant funding and next steps. No formal funding decision was made at the work session.
