Ware County commissioners back concept of tri‑county perimeter road, leave route to GDOT

The Ware County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 10 approved Resolution 2025‑22 endorsing the concept of a tri‑county perimeter road and directed staff to coordinate with the Georgia Department of Transportation on next steps.
Commissioner Jon Tindall, who moved approval, said the vote was not approval of any specific route. "This is not a vote to approve a route for a perimeter road. It is a vote to approve the concept to move forward to communicate with GDOT, who will come up with the final plan and route," Tindall said.
County Manager James Shubert told the board GDOT will prepare several preliminary routes and hold public information meetings before any location is finalized. The commission did not discuss or select a preferred alignment; commissioners emphasized community engagement and additional study before any route is adopted.
The motion passed on a roll‑call vote with Chairman Elmer Thrift and Commissioners Barry Cox, Leonard Burse, Timmy Lucas and Jon Tindall voting aye.
Next steps outlined by staff include ongoing coordination with GDOT, property appraisals and public information sessions. Chairman Thrift said he is pursuing regional support for the project through the regional commission.
