Helping Hands garden seeks county grant support; nonprofit outlines plan to teach kids to grow and cook food

Barbara Seidman, who runs A Helping Hand Outreach, Inc., and Kanisha Jones asked the Ware County Board to partner to secure grants for a Helping Hands Community Garden located on 2.5 acres at Dead End Road near Elmer Thrift Road. Seidman said the nonprofit aims to teach children how to grow vegetables and cook without relying on prepared foods, to raise chickens on site, and to eventually allow program participants to sell produce they raise.
Seidman identified her organization as a 501(c)(3) and told commissioners she needs county assistance to pursue funding and to develop a building with a kitchen on the property. The board added the request to the regular meeting agenda for further consideration and funding-path discussion.
The presentation linked the project to youth services and local food access; no formal vote or grant award was made during the work session.
