Commission approves title searches, appraisals, borrow-pit agreements and two street abandonments

At its Aug. 11 meeting, the Ware County Board of Commissioners authorized a series of property- and roadway-related actions intended to support upcoming paving and realignment projects.
The board authorized the county attorney to perform title searches and the county manager to hire a certified appraiser to obtain appraisals and purchase properties for right-of-way acquisition on Wadley Road, Banks Lane, Banks Road and Slash Pine Road at appraised fair-market value. Commissioner Barry Cox made the motion and Commissioner Timmy Lucas seconded; the board approved the authorization and noted the authority mirrors that granted July 28 for the Albany Avenue Overpass right-of-way.
Commissioners also approved borrow-pit option agreements for Rusty Tatum and David Tucker (Ammons Road). The board approved a motion to close and abandon an unnamed street in the Sandhill Subdivision and separately approved abandonment of an unopened 50-by-500-foot section of Lacie Street in the Deenwood Subdivision. Commissioner Jon Tindall explained that mapped-but-unbuilt roads revert to adjacent property owners (split down the middle if owners exist on both sides) and Commissioner Leonard Burse said returning that property to private ownership puts it back on the tax rolls.
These items were approved by roll call votes during the regular meeting; specific acquisition prices and appraisal results were not provided at the Aug. 11 session.
