Thrift Brothers LLC low bidder at $1.35M for Ware County street paving project

The Ware County Board of Commissioners reviewed a bid award at the July 14 work session for the 2023 Local Funds Phase 1 street paving project. Vice Chairman Barry Cox read that the lowest of three bids was submitted by Thrift Brothers, LLC in the amount of $1,351,112.15. The listed streets include California Avenue, Alabama Avenue, Columbia Avenue, New Hampshire Avenue, Illinois Avenue, Missouri Avenue, Utah Avenue, Wyoming Avenue, Tori Circle, Taylor Street, Ben Hill Avenue, Quail Street, Dove Street, Robin Street, Greenbriar Road, Adams Street, Eva Street, Glosson Street, and Glenn Circle.
County Manager James Shubert said the project will be funded by 2025 LMIG ($1,119,535.22) with the remaining $231,576.93 to come from Regional SPLOST discretionary funds or 2022 SPLOST. Shubert said the contractor has 240 days to complete the project and the county has three years to close out the project with GDOT. Commissioners asked about contractor capacity; Shubert noted contractors submit performance bonds and rotate crews among jobs. The work session did not include a formal vote; the bid award was added to the regular meeting agenda for approval.
