At the Ware County public hearing July 14, Interim Planning Director Dustin Minchew presented proposed text amendments to the Ware County Zoning Resolution (Sections 302.9A, 302.19.A, 707.2, 708.2, 708.A.2 and 708.B) to permit commissary kitchens in agricultural (A, A‑1, A‑2 and A‑3) zoning districts.
Minchew said the changes are intended to allow commissary kitchens to serve direct sales for off‑site consumption, including bulk catering, grab‑and‑go sales and use by food trucks. Commissioner Leonard Burse clarified that any commissary kitchen would have to be a standalone building approved by the health department and that setback requirements would remain the same.
No public testimony for or against the text amendment was offered at the hearing. The board added the zoning‑text amendment to its regular meeting agenda for Aug. 11, 2025 so the board can consider formal adoption and any conditions.
Next steps: staff will prepare ordinance language and a staff report for the Aug. 11 meeting addressing health‑department and setback requirements.
