Ware County to serve as pass-through for $1.01M library grant; renovation contract added to regular agenda

County staff told the Ware County Board of Commissioners on June 9 that the Okefenokee Regional Library System (OKRLS) has a $1,010,000 grant that requires the county to pay initial invoices and be reimbursed. County Manager James Shubert said the MOU would ensure the County is reimbursed for any invoices it pays on behalf of the library.
Assistant County Attorney Jennifer Herzog noted that paragraph five of the MOU documents a ten percent local match and that the County's previous purchases satisfy that match. "The MOU states that Ware County will serve as a 'pass through' by paying initial invoices and then being reimbursed," Shubert said while outlining the arrangement.
Staff also presented an AIA contract with Craft Development for library renovation and said the contract is projected to come in under budget. County Manager Shubert said surplus funds could be used for furniture upgrades (replacing cloth with vinyl), landscaping and parking‑lot sealing; a prior parking lot price estimate was approximately $50,000. The item and the contract were added to the regular meeting agenda for approval.
Commissioner Leonard Burse asked about the County and city's possible assistance and was told staff will continue coordination with the Development Authority and other partners as part of broader community investment work.
