Owner seeks commercial rezoning at 1981 State Street to relocate business

At the May 12 Ware County public hearing, a rezoning request was made for 1981 State Street to change the parcel from R-75 (residential) to C-3 (general commercial) to allow the property owner, identified as Donny Carter Jr., to relocate his business.
Planning and Codes Director Dustin Minchew told the commission that many surrounding parcels are already zoned C-3 and that the site is designated as an urban fringe area where residential and commercial uses are both contemplated. The applicant was not present at the hearing.
Chairman Elmer Thrift asked whether anyone opposed the rezoning; no members of the public spoke in opposition. The commission recorded the 1981 State Street rezoning request as added to the regular meeting agenda for further consideration on June 9, 2025.
