Tift County to consider GDOT sign agreement and three alcohol-license applications at Aug. 12 meeting

The Tift County Board of Commissioners signaled at a workshop Aug. 6 that it will consider a Georgia Department of Transportation indemnification and hold-harmless agreement tied to four gateway signs and three alcohol-license applications at its Aug. 12 regular meeting.
County Clerk Miriam Jordan told commissioners that Tifton-Tift County Tourism approved funding for two gateway signs on I-75 and two on Highway 82 and that the GDOT agreement is required as part of the permit application. The board indicated it wanted the GDOT agreement placed on the Aug. 12 consent agenda.
Jordan also outlined three separate alcohol-beverage license applications. An application from Dipak C. Rana for KT Foods Inc., at 2710 U.S. Highway 41 South, and one from Jigar Shah for Shreem Tifton Inc., at 2494 U.S. Highway 82 East in Brookfield, were both reviewed by the sheriff, who recommended approval, Jordan said. A third application from Arvindbhal Lavajibhai Chaudhari for Enigma Gas Inc., at 2554 U.S. Highway 82 East, was reviewed by the sheriff and "does not recommend approval based on criminal history," Jordan reported. The board directed staff to place all three items on the Aug. 12 regular agenda.
Commissioner Melissa Hughes asked whether alcohol sales should be permitted at sites while their applications are pending; Jordan said staff would review that question. No formal vote or final action on any license or the GDOT agreement was taken at the workshop.
What happens next: the items will appear on the Aug. 12 agenda for formal consideration; the sheriff's recommendations and any staff review of interim sales permissions will be part of the regular-session record.
