Tift County manager: FEMA declares 145 homes destroyed or major-damaged; teams deployed

County Manager Jim Carter reported to the Tift County Board of Commissioners at the Oct. 8 work session that Hurricane response and recovery efforts are ongoing and that federal assistance teams are active in the county.
Carter said county staff and first responders performed strongly during the storm and in recovery operations. He stated that FEMA had declared 145 homes in Tift County either destroyed or sustaining major damage and that three FEMA teams are stationed in the county; he added there may be a fourth FEMA team housed at the Recreation Department.
Commissioners Stan Stalnaker and Greg Wood publicly expressed appreciation for county employees and the linemen who worked on response and recovery. The work session did not record any related motions or funding decisions; any formal requests for additional federal or local resources would appear at a subsequent regular meeting or in staff reports to the board.
