"The proposed extension of five years is valued at $962,852.68 making the total agreement for 15 years with a cost of $3,641,262.68," Jim Carter said. He told the Board the extension would lower the annual cost in the extension period to $192,570 (compared with the current yearly rate of $267,841 under the original contract) and would generate an annual savings of $75,271 for the five-year extension period. Carter said the County may terminate the extension at any time before Aug. 1, 2029 with written notice.
Why it matters: The county's P25 radio system supports mission-critical communications for first responders and other departments. Extending maintenance and support agreements can affect long-term budgets and system security updates.
Details: The original 10-year contract (Aug. 1, 2019–July 31, 2029) was $2,678,410; the five-year extension is priced at $962,852.68. Carter emphasized that the extension secures 24/7 monitoring, software and hardware updates, and response capabilities at labor rates at or below today's prices.
Next steps: Staff recommended placing the extension on the Nov. 12 consent agenda for formal consideration and approval by the Board of Commissioners.
