Tift County tables proposed highway corridor overlay text amendment; CDBG street and drainage project declared complete

County staff asked the board to table a text amendment adding a US Highway 319 S corridor overlay for 30 days to clarify language; the board was also told CDBG Project #19p-y-137-1-6164 (Phillipsburg Street & drainage) is complete and grant funds expended.
At a Jan. 7 work session, Tift County staff asked commissioners to table for 30 days a public hearing on a text amendment to the Unified Development Code that would add a US Highway 319 S Corridor Overlay and amend the US Highway 82 W Corridor Overlay. County Manager Jim Carter said staff needs additional time to clarify the overlay language before the board acts on Resolution No. 2025-02.
Separately, Carter told the board that CDBG Project #19p-y-137-1-6164, covering Phillipsburg Street and drainage improvements (Phase 1), is complete and that Community Development Block Grant funds have been expended. County Engineer Stacy Watkins was noted as available to answer questions at the public hearing required to formally close out the grant.
The board recorded the staff request to table the zoning item and indicated a desire to place the CDBG closeout on the Jan. 13 agenda; no final action on either item was taken during the work session.
