Tift County adds third Superior Court judge; $43,050 renovation bid to accommodate new judge

County officials on Jan. 7 reported that the State Legislature approved and the governor appointed a third judge to the Tift Judicial Circuit and that the new judge has been sworn in (the judge’s name was not recorded in the work-session transcript).
County Manager Jim Carter said renovations on the third floor of the Charles Kent Administration Building are needed to provide workspace for the additional judge. Bids were received and the low bidder was McRae Construction at $43,050; Carter said the cost would be funded from the county contingency fund and that renovations should be complete by Feb. 1.
The board indicated a desire to place the renovation item on the Jan. 13 consent agenda for formal approval. No formal contract award or vote was recorded during the work session.
