Tift County work session places multiple grants, contracts and licenses on Jan. 13 consent agenda

Tift County officials on Jan. 7 signaled they will place a package of routine grants, contracts and licensing items on the board’s Jan. 13 consent agenda.
Victim Witness Assistance Program Director Jodie Spooner told the board the new prosecution-based VOCA grant cycle began Oct. 1 and that the FY25 award totals $130,101. Spooner said the office served 2,299 victims in FY24 and provided roughly 18,000 services. County Manager Jim Carter confirmed staff recommended the agreement be placed on the consent agenda for formal approval at the regular meeting.
IT Director Al Stephenson described a proposed six-month maintenance agreement with Mobile Communications America for the county’s security cameras and door-lock systems at a quoted cost of $21,750, explaining the shortened term will align the contract renewal with the start of the next fiscal year. Public Safety Director Joey Fowler presented the FY25 EMS trauma-related equipment grant allocation of $7,119.94 for Tift County and said staff plans to request $7,253.43 to purchase trauma arrest bags for all units, two portable suction units and one advanced airway intubation training mannequin.
Fowler also briefed commissioners on two GEMA/HS Recipient-Subrecipient Agreements: one needed to process Tropical Storm Debby reimbursements and another tied to maintaining and later updating the county’s multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan. Public Works Director Jason Jordan told the board staff proposes combining FY24 and FY25 Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) funds for resurfacing and paving projects, listing Red Oak Road, Academy Drive and Brookfield Nashville Road with an estimated combined cost of $1,769,061.
County Manager Carter said one-year renewals for misdemeanor probation services provided by Professional Court Services, Inc. to both State and Superior Courts will be placed on the consent agenda. County Clerk Miriam Jordan said a User Agreement with the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) is required for non-criminal justice fingerprinting results used in alcohol-license reviews; she also said applicant Anjanaben R. Chaudhari has applied for licenses at two locations and that the sheriff recommends approval.
The board indicated a desire to place these items on the consent agenda for the Jan. 13 regular session; no formal votes were recorded during the work session.
