Tift County approves quitclaim deed correction to enable sale of Fulwood Boulevard parcel

The Tift County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on Jan. 13 to execute a quit claim deed transferring parcel T015 035 (413 Fulwood Blvd) to the Tift County Development Authority to allow the authority to correct the deed and move forward with a pending offer to purchase the property.
County Manager Jim Carter said the parcel had been part of a larger tract deeded in 2004 and that a portion was later sold to the Georgia Peanut Commission. He told the board that the remaining .641-acre parcel was erroneously deeded and must be corrected before the Development Authority can complete a sale. Carter said any proceeds from a future sale would be used to satisfy outstanding debt on the property, or if no debt remained, the proceeds would come to the county.
Commissioner Melissa Hughes moved to execute the quit claim deed; Commissioner Greg Wood seconded. The motion passed 5-0 with Chairman Tony McBrayer voting.
The action corrects the County’s property records and clears the way for the Development Authority to complete a sale under the previously agreed terms. The board did not provide a buyer name or proposed sale price during the meeting.
