Polk County approves vehicles, staffing changes, Airport CIP and other routine items

The Polk County Board of Commissioners approved a bundle of routine purchases, appointments and administrative measures at its Oct. 1 meeting.
Fleet and equipment: the board approved purchase of a 2024 4WD Chevy Silverado for the Building Inspection Department for $45,922 (Georgia State Contract, budgeted in the FY2025 CIP at $60,000). The Bid Committee’s recommendations led to awarding two 2025 police Ford Explorers to Prater Ford for $89,552.04 and three to Hardy Ford for $131,640.00 to secure on‑lot vehicles; the board also approved sole-source equipment and installation for three Explorers from Coosa Valley Communications for $33,911. The board declared a list of older county vehicles surplus to be sold through GovDeals. The purchases of a Kubota SVL97-2HFC skid steer ($74,148.40) and a used 2023 Dynapac CC2200 double drum roller ($109,320.00) will be paid from 2020 SPLOST funds. All procurement motions recorded in the minutes passed unanimously.
Appointments, personnel and scheduling: the board appointed Kathy Miller to the Planning Commission alternate position previously held by Jodie Bentley Smith. The board approved Juvenile Judge compensation per an appointment order from Judge Murphy (base salary $106,000 paid by a state court grant, plus a $40,500 supplement; costs split 60/40 with Haralson County) and established a Judicial Administrative Assistant position at Pay Grade 12 with an annual salary range of $34,162–$36,253. The board also approved a Public Works director request to hire a family member of an existing Public Works employee. Commissioners approved rescheduling the Nov. 5, 2024 regular meeting to Nov. 12, 2024 because Nov. 5 is Election Day.
Airport CIP: the board approved the proposed Airport Capital Improvement Plan for fiscal years 2026–2030 by unanimous vote.
