During the Oct. 11 meeting, Chairman Will Boyd led a discussion about purchasing a Hot Box for the Roads & Bridges Department using SPLOST funds. The equipment was described as costing roughly $30,000–$60,000 and intended to provide more durable pothole repairs than the cold patch currently in use. The board agreed to allow Bobby Smith, Director of Roads & Bridges, to investigate options and report back.
Commissioner J.C. Warren said he has received complaints about dogs running loose on private property. Bobby Smith, who also assists with Animal Control, explained that under current ordinances an animal must be a nuisance or show aggressive behavior before Animal Control can intervene. Warren asked Smith to consult ordinances in other counties; the Board agreed to revisit the matter next month. Commissioner Allison Willis asked that the ordinance explicitly define what constitutes a nuisance.
Commissioners also noted facility needs at the Ag Center — including exterior bathroom and kitchen repairs — and thanked Roads & Bridges for recent work. Lagina Evans provided a brief update on the hospital, saying officials are pleased with recent work and that an Advisory Committee will resume quarterly meetings.
