Screven County commissioners approve a slate of spending, agreements and procedural items

The Screven County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 8 approved multiple motions covering tax distributions, intergovernmental services, budget adjustments and equipment purchases.
The board unanimously approved the proposed percentages for distribution of Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) funds beginning in January 2023 and executed the certificate, a procedural step to set the county's revenue-sharing allocations. Commissioner John Triplett moved the measure; Commissioner J.C. Warren seconded.
Also approved unanimously were a revised intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the City of Sylvania for non-emergency after-hours dispatching services (approval was made contingent on city acceptance), a resolution amending the FY 2020–2021 budget, a Probation Services Agreement tied to a Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) for Superior Court, and revised Safety Data Sheet (SDS) forms (to be executed by the chairman after municipal sign-offs).
On capital purchases the board approved using SPLOST funds to buy a Hot Box Recycler priced at $56,619 and to acquire two equipped patrol cars for the Sheriff’s Department priced at $73,000. Commissioners voted in favor by unanimous vote on both purchases.
Next steps: documents and agreements will be executed as noted (some contingent on the City of Sylvania), and the county will proceed with the approved SPLOST-funded purchases.
