Screven County re-elects chairman and vice-chair, adopts fee resolutions and establishes elections board

At its Jan. 10 meeting the Screven County Board of Commissioners re-elected Will Boyd as chairman and J.C. Warren as vice-chair, unanimously adopted resolutions setting a solid-waste assessment and a fire-protection fee, and approved creating a Board of Elections and Registration.
The Screven County Board of Commissioners re-elected Will Boyd as chairman and J.C. Warren as vice-chair and adopted several administrative resolutions at a Jan. 10 meeting at the Screven County Courthouse.
County Attorney Aaron Meyer conducted the leadership elections after Chairman Boyd turned the meeting over to him. Commissioner Rosa Romeo moved to re-elect Will Boyd as chairman; Commissioners Edwin Lovett, J.C. Warren, Rosa Romeo, Ben Thompson and Mike Dixon voted in favor and Commissioner Allison Willis opposed. The motion carried by majority vote. Later, Commissioner Boyd moved to re-elect J.C. Warren as vice-chair; Commissioners Lovett, Boyd, Romeo, Thompson and Dixon voted in favor and Commissioner Willis opposed; that motion also carried by majority.
The board adopted a resolution setting the county’s Solid Waste Assessment Fee and a second resolution establishing a Fire Protection Fee. Both measures were moved by Commissioner J.C. Warren and carried by unanimous vote; minute-book references were noted for both adopted resolutions.
County Attorney Meyer also outlined terms for establishing a Board of Elections and Registration, recommending at least three members appointed by the commission to three‑year staggered terms with state‑mandated training. Commissioner J.C. Warren moved to adopt the resolution creating the board; Commissioner Allison Willis seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
