William Arthur of Arthur Engineering asked the Screven County Board of Commissioners to consider adopting a ‘Sanctuary County’ resolution, prompting questions from commissioners about legal and law-enforcement implications.
Commissioner Allison Willis and Commissioner Ben Thompson said they were inclined to support the idea after further review. Commissioner Edwin Lovett asked to consult with County Attorney Aaron Meyer and Sheriff Kile before deciding. The board agreed to table the resolution until the next meeting to allow the county attorney and sheriff to review the proposal.
The item was not voted on; commissioners requested additional review and said the resolution will be reintroduced at a future meeting.
