Screven County approves contracts, joins national opioid litigation and awards RFPs

The Screven County Board of Commissioners voted April 11 to approve a series of contracts and procurement decisions and to join national litigation over prescription opioids.
The board unanimously approved a contract renewal with Traylor Business Services and a three-year contract with RAVE Mobile Safety (the company that bought SwiftReach), the county’s mass-notification vendor used by Emergency Management. Commissioners also approved the county’s RFP for library repairs and awarded a separate RFP for tree trimming and debris removal to L&B Land Improvements for $93,929.00.
Commissioners voted unanimously to adopt a resolution authorizing Screven County to participate in the National Prescription Opiate Litigation. County Attorney Aaron Meyer asked the board to amend the motion to name County Manager Lori Burke as the authorized signatory for documents related to the litigation; the board approved that amendment unanimously.
In land-use business, the board approved a Planning & Zoning recommendation and granted a Conditional Use to Stuart and Jerri Stuart for a water-bottling operation at 714 Hiltonia Creek Road in Commissioner District 1; that motion carried unanimously.
The board also approved a resolution to amend the FY2021–2022 budget for general and special funds.
County Manager Lori Burke announced the county’s annual "Red, White and Boom" event, scheduled for June 25, 2023, and asked the board to approve a $2,500 fireworks donation; commissioners discussed animal-control staffing and ordinance updates as part of staff comments.
No committee votes were reported to fail; all listed contract and budget motions carried by unanimous vote at the meeting.
