Screven County approves multiple agreements, tables mower purchase and sets budget workshop

At its May 9 meeting the Screven County Board of Commissioners approved an intergovernmental vehicle agreement with the school district, a county attorney retention agreement, a DCA memorandum to fund Ag Center repairs and a Civic Plus statement of work; the board tabled a lawn mower purchase and set a May 23 budget workshop.
The Screven County Board of Commissioners on May 9 approved several administrative agreements and contracts, tabled a proposed equipment purchase for more information and scheduled a budget workshop for May 23.
The board unanimously approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Screven County School District that permits the School District’s Safety Director to occupy a vehicle provided by the Sheriff’s Department for operational use. County Manager Lori Burke presented the item; Commissioner Rosa Romeo moved to approve and Commissioner Allison Willis seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
Commissioners also unanimously approved a Retention Agreement for County Attorney services (moved by Commissioner Edwin Lovett; seconded by Commissioner J.C. Warren), and a Memorandum of Agreement with DCA to distribute funding for structural repairs at the Ag Center (moved by Commissioner Allison Willis; seconded by Commissioner Rosa Romeo).
On procurement, the board reviewed quotes for a new lawn mower. A Screven Power Products quote for $10,265.60 was on the table and County Manager Burke said repairing the current mower would cost about $4,000. A former grass-cutting employee recommended the John Deere model for fewer breakdowns. The board requested a more detailed description from Screven Power Products and unanimously voted to table the purchase until the next meeting (motion to table by Commissioner Allison Willis; seconded by Commissioner Rosa Romeo).
The board approved a Statement of Work with Civic Plus to manage county ordinances and website content (motion by Commissioner Mike Dixon; seconded by Commissioner Edwin Lovett), and set the FY 2023–24 budget workshop for May 23, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. County Manager Burke and Warden Scroggins informed the board that an anticipated $2.00-per-inmate increase from the state was declined.
Other administrative notes in the meeting record include extension of the library RFP to May 31, 2023; Allgreen supplied the county with new dumpsters; and Roads & Bridges completed work on Bryan’s Bridge Road using the newly purchased excavator with mower head. Chairman Will Boyd adjourned the meeting at 9:54 a.m.
