Budget hearing held; prison agreement funding increase denied, board to revisit at June 27 budget meeting

Chairman Will Boyd opened a public hearing on the proposed FY 2023–24 budget on June 13, 2023. During the hearing, public commenter Patti Boddiford offered praise for the work that went into finalizing the budget and thanked the Board.
County Manager Lori Burke told commissioners the deadline for the Prison Agreement is June 30, 2023. Warden Scroggins explained to the Board that a $2 increase the state had promised was denied. Chairman Will Boyd said he had spoken with Senator Burns, who suggested writing a letter to the governor about the denied increase. The Board tabled further action on the issue until the budget meeting scheduled for June 27, 2023.
No budget adoption occurred at the June 13 hearing; the item remains scheduled for further consideration at the June 27 meeting.
