Long County commissioners approve vehicle purchases, land sale and Palmer Place Phase II plat

The Long County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 1, 2020, in Ludowici approved a series of routine county actions including vehicle purchases, a property sale and land acquisition for the county’s solid-waste operations.
Chairman Robert Parker opened the meeting at 9 a.m. and recorded a full attendance that included Vice Chairman Clifton Deloach, Commissioner Riddle, Commissioner Phillips and Commissioner David Richardson. Early procedural votes added two items to the agenda: a request from Sam Sullivan of AllGreen Waste Services and the Palmer Place Subdivision Final Plat Phase II.
Commissioners approved the meeting agenda and then voted to adopt the August minutes; Vice Chairman Clifton Deloach moved to approve the August minutes and Commissioner David Richardson seconded. Commissioner Riddle abstained because he was not present at the August meeting; the motion passed 4-1.
The board voted unanimously to pay county bills and to approve purchases of vehicles for Code Enforcement, the Road Department and the Fire Department from vendor J.C. Lewis. The transcript records the motion as "to approve purchase of vehicles for Code Enforcement, Road Department and Fire Department from J.C. Lewis" with Commissioner Riddle as mover and Commissioner Deloach as seconder.
The board approved the county’s highest bid to Debra Harris for the former Code Enforcement mobile home/office in the amount of $11,500. Commissioner Riddle moved the sale and Commissioner Deloach seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Commissioners also approved the purchase of three acres for the Rye Patch Solid Waste Center; that motion was moved by Commissioner Riddle and seconded by Commissioner Deloach and carried unanimously.
On a separate agenda item, the board approved a Consent and Waiver for Sam Sullivan, noting he is in the process of selling AllGreen Waste Services to Atlantic Waste Services, Inc. The motion recorded that the sale will not change existing contract terms; Vice Chairman Clifton Deloach moved the consent, Commissioner Riddle seconded, and the board approved it unanimously.
The most contested vote of the session was approval of the Palmer Place Final Plat Phase II. Vice Chairman Deloach moved to approve the final plat pending review by the Code Enforcement Office; Commissioner Phillips seconded. Commissioners David Richardson and Riddle opposed, and the motion passed 3-2.
The meeting concluded when Vice Chairman Deloach moved to adjourn; Commissioner Riddle seconded and the board adjourned by unanimous vote.
