Ben Hill County commission adopts 16.646% millage rate after public hearing with no comments

Ben Hill County Commission Chairman Steve Taylor and four fellow commissioners voted unanimously July 30 to adopt a final county millage rate of 16.646% and to accept the School Board millage rate of 18.110%.

County Manager Michael Dinnerman opened a public hearing on the proposed roll-back millage rate and said, "The purpose of the Public Hearing is to hear public concerns regarding the proposed roll back millage rate at 16.646%." He told the commission the hearing had been properly advertised. There were no members of the public who spoke during the hearing.

Commissioner Bennie Calloway moved to enter the public hearing; Vice-Chair Hope Harmon seconded the motion, which passed with Commissioners Bennie Calloway, Hope Harmon, Daniel Cowan, John Mooney and Chairman Steve Taylor voting in favor. After the hearing, Commissioner John Mooney moved to accept the School Board millage at 18.110%, adopt the county rate at 16.646% for both incorporated and unincorporated areas, approve the Tax Levy Resolution and authorize the chairman to sign required documents. Vice-Chair Hope Harmon seconded; the motion passed with the same unanimous vote.

The action adopts the county's tax levy at the stated millage rates and authorizes the chairman to execute related documents. The meeting record shows the county clerk documented attendance and signatures. The commission adjourned at the conclusion of the vote.
