Ben Hill County commissioners approve reappointment, MOUs and ratify surplus property; chairman authorized to sign GDOT documents pending review

The Ben Hill County Commissioners on Aug. 4 approved a slate of routine motions, including a board reappointment, a surplus-property resolution and two memoranda of understanding.
Commissioner John Mooney moved and Commissioner Daniel Cowan seconded to reappoint Jennifer Shoultz to the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill Department of Leisure Service Board; the motion passed with Commissioners Mooney, Cowan, Taylor and Calloway voting yes. Commissioner John Mooney likewise moved to ratify the Surplus Property Resolution for the modular building located at 514 S. Grant Street; Commissioner Daniel Cowan seconded and the motion passed with the same vote tally.
Commissioner Bennie Calloway moved to approve a memorandum of understanding with the University of Georgia for the Cooperative Extension Office; Commissioner Daniel Cowan seconded and the motion passed with Commissioners Calloway, Cowan, Mooney and Taylor voting yes.
On a separate motion, Commissioner Daniel Cowan moved to approve an MOU with the Georgia Department of Transportation for roundabout lighting assistance at SR 90 and Lower Rebecca Road and to authorize Chairman Steve Taylor to sign documents "pending County Manager Michael Dinnerman research regarding the possibility of the County sharing the cost of the lights with the City." Commissioner John Mooney seconded; the motion passed with Commissioners Cowan, Mooney, Calloway and Taylor voting in favor.
All recorded votes in the minutes show the four seated commissioners present voting in favor of motions; Vice‑Chair Hope Harmon was absent. No amendments to any motions were recorded.
Ending: After the votes the meeting moved to public comments, an executive session was noted later in the record, and the meeting adjourned.
