The Coffee County Board of Commissioners on June 5 declared retired fire department equipment surplus, approved listing the items for sale on GovDeals, and authorized transfer of items to the City of Argyle with a liability release and recommendation that the city test equipment before use.
County Administrator Wesley Vickers reviewed the surplus list presented to the board: retired SCBA units replaced with Scott SCBA units, SCBA cylinders, damaged or failed hoses, a box of old pagers and radios, flashlights and obsolete AEDs, and an old mobile printer. Vickers said Chief Carver had received a letter from the City of Argyle requesting equipment for its volunteer department and that Coffee County does not warranty surplus equipment; the city would need to sign a release and test equipment prior to putting it into service.
Commissioner Johnny Wayne Jowers moved to declare the listed items surplus and to list them for sale on GovDeals; Commissioner Oscar Paulk seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Separately, following discussion, the board voted unanimously to approve the transfer of surplus equipment to the City of Argyle subject to required release and testing.
The commission did not attach any conditions on which specific items would be transferred beyond the recommended release and testing; staff will proceed with the GovDeals listing and the intergovernmental transfer paperwork.
