Board transmits 2023 Comprehensive Plan to state reviewers after public hearing; no public comments

The Coffee County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 7 held a public hearing and voted unanimously to transmit the 2023 Comprehensive Plan for Coffee County and the cities of Ambrose, Broxton, Douglas and Nicholls to state reviewers.
Loretta Hylton, senior planner with the South Georgia Regional Commission, told the board the local process — including a kickoff meeting, one public hearing and three required workshops — is complete and "it is now time to transmit it to the Southern Georgia Regional Commission and the Department of Community Affairs for review." Chairman Ted O'Steen opened the hearing at 9:41 a.m.; Hylton said she will return with any required edits after the Department of Community Affairs reviews the document.
There were no public comments during the hearing. Commissioner AJ Dovers moved to approve transmittal to the Department of Community Affairs; Vice‑Chairman Jimmy Kitchens seconded and the board unanimously approved.
After the vote, resident Olivia Pearson announced a town hall meeting on Aug. 19, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Gaines Chapel and invited the public to attend. The board adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
