Coffee County awards motorgrader bid to Yancey CAT, approves surplus of vehicles and equipment

The Coffee County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 2 accepted the low bid from Yancey CAT to purchase one motorgrader and approved surplus of several county assets.
County Attorney Tony Rowell presented bid results for one motorgrader. The Yancey CAT (CAT 140 grader/sloper) bid was $363,879 with a 7‑year buyback of $125,000 (net after buyback $238,879). The John Deere (670G grader/sloper) bid was $382,300 with a $75,000 buyback (net after buyback $307,300). Commissioner Oscar Paulk moved to accept the low bid from Yancey CAT; Commissioner AJ Dovers seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Fire Chief Steve Carver told the board the department has replaced an older fire truck and requested the county surplus the old truck and used tires. The board approved placing the following items on GovDeals for surplus: 2010 F‑150 Ford (Sheriff’s Office VIN #30942), fire truck (VIN #287962) and used fire‑department tires. Commissioner Johnny Wayne Jowers moved to surplus the items and Vice‑Chairman Jimmy Kitchens seconded; the motion was approved unanimously.
Mr. Parker Borland of Hurst and Hurst also delivered the 2022 audit report and gave the county a clean opinion, saying "the county is in great shape." The meeting record shows no dissent on these items.
