County and city officials report SPLOST victory, upcoming TSPLOST referendum and agency program updates

County Administrator Wesley Vickers told the joint meeting that SPLOST VII recently passed and that a transportation special purpose local option sales tax (TSPLOST) referendum will appear on the May 2024 ballot; he encouraged residents to support the TSPLOST measure.
Mayor Tony Paulk summarized recent projects completed in the City of Douglas. Mayor Jimmy Littleton of Broxton reported work on water and sewer infrastructure in his city.
Morris Leis provided an update on behalf of the Coffee County Board of Education. Matt Seale of the Economic Development Authority thanked partners and supporters for ongoing projects around Douglas and Coffee County.
Vickie Lewis, CEO of Coffee Regional Medical Center, announced an internship program at the hospital. Liddell Greenway of Wiregrass Technical College said the college is expanding its commercial driver’s license (CDL) and nursing programs. Megan Raburn introduced herself as the new Downtown Development Authority director and said she is excited to be on the job.
The meeting that included these updates was a joint special called session that later moved into coordinated approvals for a LongHorn Steakhouse project. The joint session adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
