Hardin County Commissioners Court on Feb. 25 unanimously appointed Cathie (Cathie) Brown to fill the Justice of the Peace, Precinct 6 vacancy, effective March 1, 2025.
The appointment filled an unexpired term created by the early retirement of Justice Jacueline Werner. The court provided the top three applicants—Amy Enloe; Robert “Bubba” Guedry II; and Catherine “Cathie” Brown—up to five minutes each to address the court as part of the appointment process. The court then recessed to executive session at 10:21 a.m. under Texas Government Code §551.074(1) to discuss personnel matters and returned to open session at 10:29 a.m.
Following the executive session, Commissioner Amanda Young moved to appoint Cathie Brown; Commissioner Chris Kirkendall seconded the motion. The minutes record the vote in favor by Judge Wayne McDaniel and Commissioners Kirkendall, Cooper, Young and Koch; the motion was recorded as approved and the appointment effective March 1, 2025.
Next steps recorded in the minutes include executing the administrative steps required for the appointment, including the oath of office and updating precinct records. The minutes do not record a public statement from the appointee beyond the application presentations, nor do they report any dissenting votes.
