Hardin County approves Courthouse Café startup funding, bank account and POS agreement

Hardin County Commissioners on Jan. 28 approved a package of actions to launch a Courthouse Café at the county courthouse in Kountze. The court voted to open an interest-bearing account titled "Hardin County Courthouse Cafe" at First Financial Bank, establish a change fund not to exceed $200 for cash sales and transfer $10,000 from General Fund contingency to the enterprise fund to cover startup payroll, supplies and equipment.
The county also authorized the County Judge to execute a merchant processing agreement with Shift4 to provide a SkyTab point-of-sale system and software for café operations. County Judge Wayne McDaniel introduced the café funding requests and motions were made by Commissioner L.W. (Nubbin) Cooper Jr. and seconded as recorded; the motions carried unanimously among the four-member court present.
The budget transfer adjusts General Fund contingency (010-401-800) by $10,000 and increases the enterprise fund revenue line and related sales revenue adjustments as reflected in the court paperwork. The county clerk recorded the motions and vote on the meeting minutes.
The next steps are administrative: opening the bank account, establishing the change fund, completing procurement and implementing the POS contract. The court did not set a public opening date during the meeting.
